Every reenactment event is conducted with strict safety controls and standards, and that obviously means no lead ball is anywhere near your cartridge box to prevent any “live” firing of the muskets. That also means that many reenactors might not have ever actually fired a volley with a live round. So, to gain that experience, 4th Coy met at the Fairfax Rod and Gun club on their black powder range to fire off a few rounds and gain that experience. The targets were just paper bulls-eyes about 30 yards away. For those that hadn’t fired a musket before, it took a few rounds to get the hang of it. By the end, the target was being consistently hit.
Videos of a few of the shots can be found at the 4th Coy Flickr site.
