By invitation of the 76th Highlanders, 4th Coy made their first appearance at historic Mount Vernon. The program was “Is Mount Vernon Burning?”, a reenactment of events that occurred in April of 1781. Crown forces, operating from the Jamestown area, made forays up the Potomac River in search of supplies. A small force found themselves at General Washington’s home. Lund Washington, George’s cousin, was the caretaker of the plantation and negotiated with the Crown forces to ensure the safety of the home.
4th Coy’s role was to play the part of the raiding force. The Royal Navy was in attendance with three boats that would bring the raiding force to shore. On both days, the embarkation, sailing, and landing went more than smoothly, and was a great experience for the many members that had not previously gotten the chance to be amphibious. The remainder of the days were spent drilling and posing for a countless number of photos with tourists.
