In what has fast become an annual tradition for 4th Coy, the first event of the year was the annual encampment and tactical demonstration at Fort Ward in Alexandria in celebration of George Washington’s Birthday. Nearly twenty members and potential recruits were present and helped to make the 4th Coy the backbone of the Crown Forces at the event. The morning was spent working on drill and marching. The practice was much needed as this was the first time on the field since the Battle of the Hook. After a hearty meal, it was more drill and marching in preparation for the tactical demonstration. Similar to years in the past, the scenario called for the Crown Forces to march on the field, face the Continental Forces, and trade volleys before being forced to withdrawal from the field. The 1st and 2nd Virginia Regimentals were 4th Coy’s opposition, and both organizations appeared to be in mid-campaign form based on the quality of the volleys. The event concluded with a short parade and dismissal.
